The core activity of Cobra is production and sales of porous ceramic components and related products for a diversity of applications. The technology for the production of the porous ceramics is proprietary and protected by patents.
THE POROUS CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY. The production methododology of Cobra is based on special colloidal filtration methodes, resulting in defined porous ceramic products with sharp pore size distribution, especially towards the higher tail of the Gauss-distribution curve.
THE MARKET Some important fields of application are a.o. in the use as support for ceramic membrane development, analytical applications, as intermediate product as machinable component, in sensors.
Pervaporation using ceramic HybSi® membranes can deliver a 30 to 50 percent energy savings relative to conventional distillation. Particularly striking is that this ceramic membrane can be used up to a temperature of 150°C , while the maximum temperature for polymeric membranes is around 100°C. As a result, ceramic membranes enable a fourfold increase in throughput, thereby cutting the cost of materials up to 75 percent. That means the proper application and use of ceramic HybSi® membranes for pervaporation offers significant advantages, as demonstrated by a recently completed ISPT/NL GUTS techno project.
